Joshua Matfess

Joshua Matfess is a sophomore in the School of Public Affairs pursuing an interdisciplinary degree in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government.  Acting as the lead figure in the organization, Matfess has been in contact with D.C. Statehood leaders and organizations such as Paul Strauss, Michael A. Brown, and DC Vote.  Other than fighting for real democracy, you can find Matfess at assisting at various events through his job in the Audiovisual Department.

Anthony Szewczyk

Anthony Szewczyk is a Sophomore in the School of Public Affairs from Princeton, New Jersey majoring in Political Science and Computer Science. He co-founded SDCS with Josh Matfess in November of 2011 and has been a passionate advocate of DC Statehood ever since. He hopes to continue to help SDCS grow and reach even more students at AU and throughout DC. He is also an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and is always willing to talk your ear off about DC Statehood or the Eagles’ playoff hopes.

Jack Szeltner

Jack Szeltner is a Junior in the School of Public Affairs and is majoring in Political Science. Jack is a proud Cleveland, Ohio native, but after moving to Washington, DC he has taken a keen interest in the local political scene and advancing his own and fellow residents’ right to federal representation. Jack strives to increase the scope and influence of SDCS in order to educate and advocate on behalf of DC residents. Jack is also a proud supporter of the musical stylings of Mr. Waka Flaka Flame. If you see him on the quad, he is always ready to Squad Up.

Grace Flaherty

Grace Flaherty is a Junior in the School of International Service participating in the Global Scholars program. Originally from the burbs of Chicago, Grace realized that local politics can be just as fascinating as international politics early on. She makes sure SDCS has the funds needed to organize awesome events and bring this district one step closer to representation!
